Holiday eating hacks

Holidays bring us together and sharing meals with people we love is a huge part of being and staying healthy. So we shouldn't think we have to eat out of Tupperware on Thanksgiving just to get or maintain a 6 pack.

I find that if I set an intention before I sit down with my family, to enjoy and savor the flavors and conversations it prevents me from over indulging. Auto-intoxication from eating too much food, clouds our ability to think properly and does not leave up feeling good about controlling other aspects of our life. Here is a holiday framework to avoid the easy desires to over indulge.

  •  Limit foods that will upset the digestive system before and after the big holiday meals

So if you don't usually eat gluten, and you know you are going to eat it at a holiday meal don't throw the rest of your eating habits out the window just because of one meal.

  •  Avoid foods that are not homemade, candy, chips, & other industrially processed foods

  • Attempt to fast the morning of a big holiday meal and the morning/ half day after it.

  • Take a walk after a large meal for at least 10-15 mins.

  • Workout a little bit longer than you normally would the day after a huge meal, your body now has a lot of extra stored energy, put it to use and try a lift a bit heavier than you normally would.

  • Most importantly enjoy and savor the moments, meals and connection with friends and family.  But don't forget to ask yourself if being grateful for what you have today is important, isn't showing gratitude by respecting our body and our bigger intention for life even more important than one meal?
