Decision theory
In psychology, the study of choice is called decision theory. Decision theory seeks to understand how people make choices and how they can make better ones. Choice can have both positive and negative consequences. On the positive side, choice can give people the opportunity to tailor their experiences and outcomes to their own preferences, leading to greater satisfaction and happiness. On the negative side, too much choice can be overwhelming and lead to decision paralysis, or the inability to make a decision. Additionally, the choices we make can have unintended consequences, both for ourselves and for others.
Decision fatigue is real. Think about all the choices we get to make these days, and the bombardment of options we have in the modern world. So how to we battle with all the factors, including personal values, beliefs, and desires, as well as external factors such as social norms and incentives that can color our ability to make a choice for us?
